EXPLANATION OF HOW TO PLAY BLOXWORD

BLOXWORD on this site is a 6 x 6 x 6 version. We are working on a practical 3D mode of solution

An order 6  BLOXWORD is comprised of twelve slices. Six where the cube is sliced in the vertical plane, and another six when the cube is sliced in the horizontal plane.

This is shown in the following which is colour coded to assist somewhat.in the visualization.

Each of the 6 vertical slices is assigned a set of  'Across' and 'Down'  clues. (As for a  standard 2D crossword.)  These six slices, when   placed back together form a cube that may now be sliced in the horizontal plane providing a second set of 6 2D crosswords. This second set uses the same letters used in the vertical slice set, but being now in a different plane they form different words thus requiring a second set of different   'Across' and 'Down' clues. Thus, both horizontal and vertical slices of the puzzle are used in conjunction to solve the whole 3D puzzle.

A printable worksheet page for printing  is available here: blanks.htm

The worksheet is suggested because the 12 slices need to be sequenced as a final test of solution. It is not enough to merely solve the 12 individual numbered slices - you must then assign the numbers to the sequence of A through F for the vertical slices, and then to  the sequence of  G through L  for the horizontal slices. You will see this when you access the SOLVE page. The slices of the puzzle are not necessarily in a numeric sequence corresponding to the diagram above !

The sequence could be (for example )

    A 7    B 1    C 11   D E 9   F 12

  G 10   H 4    I   8     J 3    K 2   L 6

The object is to demonstrate that you have sequenced the individual slices in that unique sequence that forms the 3-dimensional BLOXWORD.
